Sports/Extracurricular Activities September 22, 2018 Dear Parents, Guardians, and Community Members, We are excited to have our inaugural football season here at Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy. We are also excited about the large community attendance at games with students of all ages, parents, and grandparents. Our coaches and team have done a dynamic job preparing and performing through this point of the season. We are looking forward to a successful completion to our first season of football. As we continue to have sporting events and extracurricular activities, we want to ensure the spirit of our school (H.E.A.R.T.) is displayed at all times by everyone representing our school. Competitive sports can become very exciting, causing emotions to rise, but it is important for both players and fans to remain respectful of others and themselves. We will not tolerate inappropriate behaviors that do not align with our core values (honor, endurance, academic achievement, responsibility, and tolerance) among our players or fans. All participants and attendees at any KDHSA school related events and activities are expected to display HEART (show citizenship). As adults we are to serve as role models for good sportsmanship, controlled emotions, and positive interactions. Anyone asked to leave an event will be barred from future attendance at any athletic event for the remainder of the school year as determined by school administration. When necessary, we reserve the right to deny entry and attendance to events as determined by school administration and/or law enforcement. We hope to never go to these extremes as we have already had several years with very few incidents and none barring future attendance; however, it is important you share this information with all stakeholders who may attend our games and activities representing KDHSA. We welcome all the support and passion; however, that passion must be demonstrated appropriately, as we are all part of the same Swampowl Family. 11:30 Dismissal TODAY - The High School Campus has been impacted by a power outage throughout the campus. Good afternoon! In order to be in state compliance with Act 837, we are in the process of changing the OnCourse logins for some users. We understand that you and your student may not be able to log into OnCourse over the next couple of days until this process is complete. We will be sending home updated usernames with students. The Middle School Cross Country Meet this Saturday, September 15th has been cancelled by the Levee Board due to standing water on the course. St. Matthews will reschedule the meet at a later day.

Reminder: The KDHSA Middle School “Back to School Night” will be held this evening (Thursday, September 13, 2018 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm). There will be a single point of entry at the cafeteria gate on 25th St. Parents will not be allowed into homerooms until 5:50pm. Expectations for all 5th - 8th grade parents attending “Back to School Night” are as follows: You will meet in your child’s homeroom teacher’s classroom promptly at 6:00pm., where you will receive a copy the rotation to follow according to you child’s class schedule. ( All parents arriving prior to 5:50pm will be asked to stand under the middle school pavillion between Buildings 400 and 600.) Next, parents should follow the appropriate rotation according to your child’s schedule, visiting each of their classroom teachers (8 minute rotations). Each teacher will share a brief overview of their classroom expectations and how parents can assist students at home. You will meet with KDHSA Middle School Admin TEAM in the cafeteria at your last rotation. You can check the OnCourse Parent Portal to find out your child’s homeroom teacher (https://www.oncourseconnect.com/account/login). Due to unforeseen circumstances some MS some faculty may not be able to attend MS Back to School Night. However, KDHSA personnel will be in place to share their classroom overview with you. *RETAKE PICTURE INFORMATION* MAINE AVE. Grades 1st-8th will take picture retakes on MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 24TH. HIGH SCHOOL Grades 9th-11th will take picture retakes on MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 24TH. RIVERTOWN Grade KINDERGARTEN will take picture retakes on MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 24TH. DEC Grade PREK will take picture retakes at a later date. The date will be sent out once confirmed. If your child(ren) received a packet of pictures that were taken on Science Day and you would like your child(ren) to retake pictures, you MUST send your child(ren) to school on Monday the 24th with the COMPLETE ORIGINAL PICTURE PACKET. There is no cost for retakes but your child(ren) will only be able to retake pictures with the original packet in hand. If your child(ren) was not present on Science Day or if he/she enrolled after Science Day, then your child(ren) will take pictures for the first time.
