Solar Eclipse Information, 8/21/17
Kenner Discovery will be in the path of the Solar Eclipse on Monday, August 21, 2017 from approximately 11:57 a.m. until 2:57 p.m. In order to ensure our students are able to safely experience this event, Kenner Discovery Health Science Academy will provide the opportunity for students to watch the eclipse indoors at school through a special livestream broadcast. https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/eclipse-live-stream
To ensure the safety of all KDHSA staff and students, all outdoor activities at KDHSA --Maine Campus and Rivertown-- (physical education classes, recess, athletic practice, etc.) will be held indoors between the hours of 11:50 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Monday. All schools will dismiss at the regular dismissal time.
We consider this eclipse to be an educational event. The event will be addressed throughout the school day in an intentional manner. We encourage all students to attend school and participate in our planned day. If at home, parents/guardians and teachers are encouraged to stress to students that safety is of the utmost importance during a solar eclipse and failure to take the necessary viewing precautions may lead to permanent eyesight damage. This day will not be an excused absence from school.
Thank you for being our partners in educating your children,

Subject: Morning & Afternoon Carpool
Good Evening Swamp Owl Parents:
Please practice patience with carpool as we begin the 2017-18 school year. While we have "all hands on deck", remember that faculty will be standing in the heat and inclement weather until all students are safely loaded in vehicles. Only 5th-8th grade students can be picked up on 26th St. If you have students younger than 5th grade, use the horseshoe as usual. We will monitor the carpool to ensure that it runs smoothly.
