Dear Discovery Online families,
This year was filled with change that required flexibility and understanding from all. We want to thank you for joining us this year virtually and partnering with us as we educated your child from a distance. We have enjoyed learning together and truly appreciate the hard work you’ve put into supporting your child’s education this year. The year is coming to a close, and we have a few housekeeping items to take care of before we part for the summer.
Computer Drop Off:
Drop off will be Tuesday, June 1st from 7AM - 4PM and Wednesday, June 2nd from 7AM to 4PM.
All computers (DJOD and KD) will be dropped off on the Maine Campus (2504 Maine Ave) in the horseshoe in the parking lot.

David Rodriguez, our IT campus coordinator, will be checking the devices to ensure they are in working order, are undamaged, and have the case and charger.
To avoid a possible fee, please ensure to return all devices on one of the dates listed above. If you are unable to return devices on the 1st or 2nd, please contact Carrie Comardelle at carrie.comardelle@discoveryhsf.org to arrange a time before the end of the year to return the device.
Novels (3rd/4th grade):
If you have any novels that belong to the school that you have not returned, please follow your teacher’s directions or bring them when you drop off your laptop.
Thank you for being part of the Discovery family! Have a great summer!

Dear Parents and Guardians,
Thank you for allowing us to help your child grow this year. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we plan our end of the year celebration. Our Kindergarten Stepping up Ceremony will be at the High School Campus on Loyola on Thursday, May 20th.
Here are some guidelines for the event:
Date: Thursday, May 20th
Student arrival time: Regular school arrival at KD Maine: Bus - 7:45 Carpool - 8:00 - 8:20am. Students will be bussed from KDHSA to the High School, Loyola Campus for the ceremony. All students must ride the bus to and from school in order to participate.
Parent arrival time: 9:00 - 9:45am at the Loyola HS Campus. Please enter through the gate on Loyola to the left of the building. Participants must wear a mask to enter.
Parent and Visitor parking: Please park across the street at the Kenner Pavillion
The ceremony will begin at 10:00am.
Other information:
Children should wear nice dress clothes. If possible, please have students wear closed toe shoes.
Due to limited seating at the HS campus, please limit 6 guests per child. Wristbands will be sent home in your child’s folder on Monday, May 17th. Please do not lose the bands as they can not be replaced. All guests must have a wristband to enter the gate.
Please do not bring flowers, balloons, poppers, horns, or cowbells to the ceremony.
After the ceremony, children will be bussed back to KDHSA. Parents may NOT transport their child to and from the ceremony.
After the ceremony, parents may pick up their student at the Maine campus for a family celebration. If checking out your student, parents must send an email to officemaine@discoveryhsf.org, and students will be called to the office to be checked out.
Thank you for being our partners in educating your child. We truly appreciate your cooperation.
With HEART,
Lyn Kelly Principal and the Kindergarten Team

Today is Give NOLA Day. Support our Swamp owls by donating to KDHSA. Donations start at just $10 and each one makes a difference! Will you be in that number and help us reach our goal!? www.givenola.org/discoveryschools

Dear Parents and Guardians:
All KDHSA students in 3rd and 4th grade will take the LEAP assessment starting tomorrow, April 28th through Tuesday, May 4th. Our students are well prepared and have worked very hard to produce their best work on this assessment.
There will be no Homework assignments for our 3rd and 4th grade students. Also, students in other grades may not have homework assignments during LEAP testing.
Here is what parents and guardians can do:
Have a peaceful and calm start to the day
Make sure your child is well rested
Send them with a KD sweatshirt, sweater or jacket
Send them with a full water bottle
Send them with a healthy snack
Get them to school on time
Leave them with a positive encouraging word
Thank you for your support and cooperation. We sincerely appreciate our parents being our partners in educating your children.
Lyn Kelly
Principal, K-4th
