youth leadership

Kenner Discovery is pleased to announce that two of our students, Jonas Newton and Nema Shaw, are participating in the Jefferson Community Youth Leadership (JCYL) Program. The JCYL Class of 2025 began its program year on September 14 at the Second Harvest Food Bank. This program is designed for Jefferson Parish High School juniors and seniors. It includes an opening retreat and six monthly sessions covering topics such as economic development, education, healthcare, law enforcement, governance, diversity, equity, inclusion, and community engagement. The program will conclude with a graduation ceremony in April 2025. Nurturing leadership qualities in young people helps build confidence, resilience, and a sense of responsibility while also ensuring a pipeline of capable leaders who can address pressing societal issues, drive positive change, and contribute to the progress of our local community. Jonas and Nema are both juniors at Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy.
