ribbon cutting

In a momentous event attended by students, staff, and esteemed guests, Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy held a joyous ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of its Discovery Arts & Athletics Performance Center.

Dr. Patty Glaser, the Head of School and CEO, marked the occasion by ushering in a new era for the Swamp Owls, stating, “Our students needed a place to perform! So we built them a facility to compete in sports and to perform music and to act in theater productions. It was a combination of a public-private partnership to help fund the building, and we are beyond excited.”

The state-of-the-art facility, spanning an impressive 29,000 square feet, is poised to elevate the student experience at Kenner Discovery. Boasting a full-size court and seating for 2,100 spectators, the multi-purpose facility features a gymnasium, athletic locker rooms, refreshment stand, a coaches' office, a weight room, additional classrooms, and a performance stage with dressing rooms. This cutting-edge center is designed to support and enhance the school's robust athletic and arts programs.

Kenner Discovery takes pride in its exceptional athletic program, offering 28 varsity sports teams, including 14 for boys and 14 for girls, 20 sub-varsity teams, and ten sports teams at the middle school level. Moreover, the lower school provides three intramural sports teams for 3rd and 4th grade students. Complementing its strong sports program, the school also fosters a vibrant arts program, offering courses and clubs in dance, music, theatre, and visual arts.

The unveiling of the Discovery Arts & Athletics Performance Center represents a significant milestone for Kenner Discovery, positioning the school to further nurture and expand its athletic and arts programs. This remarkable addition is a testament to Kenner Discovery’s unwavering commitment to providing a well-rounded education that empowers students to explore their talents in and out of the classroom.
