A HEARTfelt congratulations to Mr. Jeryl Fischtziur for being honored with the prestigious Bound Athletic Director of Influence Award! This award celebrates Mr. Fischtziur's outstanding contribution and dedication to the field of athletic administration.
Mr. Fischtziur has worked in the education field for 38 years. In 2017, he joined the Discovery team as the Athletic Director. Prior to his current position, he served as the Athletic Director for Grace King High School for 27 years.
Mr. Fischtziur earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Nicholls State University. He began his school career in 1983 working as a teacher and basketball coach in Plaquemines Parish Public Schools. In 1987, he returned to his home of Jefferson Parish to begin his long tenure of working for Jefferson Parish Public Schools. During his time working for Jefferson Parish Public Schools, he earned the High School Teacher of the Year award, Louisiana High School Athletic Association Athletic Director of the Year award, and is also a two-time recipient of the Louisiana ProStart Educator of the Year award. Mr. Fischtziur is a member of several professional organizations including the Louisiana High School Coaches Association, the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association, the LHSADA-NIAAA Leadership Training Louisiana Coordinator, and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. He serves on the Executive Committee for the Louisiana High School Athletic Directors Association. Mr. Fischtziur also serves on the Board of Directors for the Louisiana Restaurant Association New Orleans Chapter.
In addition to overseeing the athletic programs at Discovery, Mr. Fischtziur also teaches ProStart culinary arts classes and coaches the girls’ basketball and softball teams.
