History
Discovery Schools began serving families in 2013 and has enjoyed 11 years of academic success.
Mission
The mission of Discovery Health Sciences Academy is to provide a rigorous learning environment where students achieve academically, develop intellectual curiosity, and practice environmental responsibility while exploring health and science topics and careers.
PK-8th
BROD will expand to 8th grade by 2027-28.
Location
17255 S. Harrells Ferry Road in Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Type 2 Charter
BROD is a Type 2 charter meaning all Louisiana residents can apply.
No Entrance Test
No testing requirements to gain admission.
Class Size
PreK: 20 students per classroom with a teacher and co-teacher. K-1st : 26 students per classroom with a teacher and co-teacher. 2nd-8th - 26 students per classroom with a teacher.
1:1 Tech
Students have 1:1 technology and are issued a Chromebook for school use.
Co-Curricular
Discovery students benefit from extracurricular classes learning the fundamentals of music, art, physical education, Spanish, and computer.
Intervention
Discovery offers Academic Intervention in reading and math for students who are below the benchmark.
Counseling
Discovery has Counseling Services with short-term individual and group counseling for students.
Support
Discovery offers Special Education services, Resources, Gifted & Talented, English Language Learners, and Support/Related Services.
Ochsner
BROD is a a partnership between Ochsner and Discovery Schools. Children of current Ochsner employees will comprise about half of the enrollment, while the other half will be open to the community.
Bus Service
BROD offers limited bus service to the Greater BR area.
