ACADEMICS

The curriculum at Discovery Schools provides students with the skills they need to be 21st-century learners. Discovery’s goal is to provide students with high-quality health science integrated education that empowers them to make healthy and sustainable choices for themselves and their environment. Our school has four primary programmatic aims: 1) rigorous health & science academics, 2) healthy lifestyle choices, 3) experiential learning, and 4) arts and culture.

Discovery students receive a rigorous education in health and science fields, and also learn about good nutrition, healthy lifestyle choices, physical fitness, and a sustainable environment through experiential learning, including maintaining a butterfly, herb, and vegetable garden. Students will learn about preventive physical and mental health measures, create personal health goals, examine public health concerns, analyze environmental issues, and research effective solutions. Providing students with hands-on, health science learning will allow students to build on a strong foundation of STEM content knowledge and ensure success in college and career.

At Discovery, our student support services are top-notch. We strive to meet the needs of all of our students. We provide academic and behavioral interventions to students who need additional support beyond the classroom. Academically, students receive interventions in reading and/or math. Behaviorally, students can receive support through the counseling team. Discovery supports students with speech and language needs through our on-site speech-language pathologists providing speech and language therapy to help our students achieve their academic goals.

Our teachers create meaningful and engaging learning opportunities so all students, including those with diverse learning needs, thrive.  We have Sensory Learning Centers and Learning Resource Centers. Our lead SPED teachers and SPED Co-teachers support our students with specific learning needs throughout the school day.
