Meet the KDHSA Team
The KDHSA team includes our board, founding head of school, leadership teams, faculty, parents, and students. As a team, we will work to deliver an exciting, accountable school model to the students and parents of Jefferson Parish. Together we will become a community of learners growing together and celebrating our students and their accomplishments.
Louis Dubuc, CFO
Louis is a CPA who comes to KDHSA from the business world. He participated in managing and growing a locally owned insurance firm to the point of national acquisition. As their CFO, Louis ran a highly efficient and effective Finance Department that emphasized customer service. He also provided the budgeting and financial oversight of a $10 million dollar corporate headquarters. He is well versed in Human Resources and Business Operations. Louis is a team player and likes taking an organization from the ground up.
Dr. Jesse Watson, Principal
Distinguished as a vibrant and driven leader, Dr. Jesse J. Watson, Ph.D., M.P.A. is highly regarded for his problem-solving, consensus-building, communication, and human relations skills. He believes strongly in the potential of every student and that, through functioning as a team, all students will achieve at the highest levels. A native of Monroe, Louisiana, Dr. Watson is the product of parents (both educators) who instilled in him the value of a solid academic foundation. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA (SUBR) and later earned dual Master’s Degrees from SUBR: Master of Public Administration at Nelson Mandela School of Public Policy (M.P.A.) and Master of Education in Administration and Supervision (M.Ed.). Dr. Watson also received a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.
Prior to joining Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy as the founding principal, Dr. Watson was an assistant principal at one the state’s top performing charter schools and an instructional leader at both the middle school and collegiate levels. A published author, Dr. Watson has presented research at numerous national and international conferences held throughout the world: Beijing, China, Johannesburg, South Africa, Honolulu, HI, New York, NY, San Diego, CA, Houston, TX, Memphis, TN and New Orleans, LA. Dr. Watson enjoys traveling, music, and all sports, especially golf.
Sharon Preen, Division Head
Sharon holds a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Special Education from the University of New Orleans. Her undergraduate degree is in History with a Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification from Tulane University. Sharon is certified in grade K-4 and as a Reading Specialist K-12.
Over the past 15 years she worked in school settings with a diverse population of learners with wide-ranging needs and abilities. Her professional career includes working with students in elementary and secondary private, parochial, and public school settings. Her mission while working in schools has been to develop meaningful curriculum and instructional methods that set high achievement expectations as well as cultivate academic curiosity.
In her own words… “My dedication to curriculum development has nurtured student engagement and a love for learning. My educational philosophy and teaching methodology has been greatly influenced by Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligence, the constructivist ideas of Jean Piaget, the sociolinguistic theories of Lev Vygotsky, and Kolb’s experiential learning theory. I believe that all children have individual gifts, talents, and unique learning styles. My goal when working with all students has been to contribute to the development of lifelong learning, self-advocacy, and global thinking.”
Sharon’s professional experiences are extensive and unique. Her background includes working as a learning and reading specialist, admissions director of a Pre-K-12 school, educational consultant developing and implementing home-school programs, co-author of a charter school proposal, and classroom teacher grades K-10th educating children with diverse needs and abilities. Sharon also served as a literacy coach supporting and mentoring novice teachers, assessment data leadership team leader, site coordinator for a school-wide differentiated literacy program, and as a school-based team leader of a professional learning team whose task was to increase student achievement and learning outcomes.
Sharon is extremely excited to be part of the KDHSA Leadership Team and expresses her enthusiasm often. She looks forward to personally meeting all the students and families who will be part of the KDHSA family.
